Crochet Christmas Presents Revealed

I love making crochet Christmas gifts and it's even more fun when they are special requested.
I've been looking forward to sharing with you what I made this year.
I have lots of hubby's side of the family around so I usually crochet something for all the
Kids each Christmas.

Here are all the projects I did with links to the patterns (if there is one)
Some are freestyle or patterns to come... yay!

First up was a request of a Spiderman hat! I wanted something unique so I was naturally drawn to a pattern I'd been wanting anyway. This is the Along Came a Spider Beanie by Playin' Hooky Designs

I followed this pattern directly just curved the spider legs as I sewed them to look like the logo.
I also changed the brim to FPDC and BPDC for a stretchy band.

The next hat design I made is also from Playing Hooky Designs. I've made many graph beanies before and knew my niece loved My Little Pony's Rainbow Dash. I actually made two of these. I totally goofed and made the 1st one to small. So my daughter was excited to get a matching hat with her cousin.

This next design was for my son. He loves Legos and I was drawn to a stitch pattern of bobbles. This is a design in the works from me. I want to perfect it a little more but hopefully now that the holidays are past I have more time to do it and in more sizes.

I didn't follow a pattern for this next design. There are alot of Ninja Turtle patterns out there but I just used basic beanie method and added some simple eyes.

A fun touch was using reflective yarn for the mask portion.

The last hat I made, I worked up a Basic Beanie and added a batman Logo.
I used this Free Pattern for the logo.

The Cousins and my kids all loved their hats. Of course I wasn't fast enough to get any pics of them in use but they all fit great and were well loved! That made my heart very happy!

Did you make crochet gifts this past Christmas?

Pony and Hero Hat Creations

It's a busy time of year for crocheters. Lots of presents to make for our friends and loved ones on top of regular orders. I've managed to find a few spare minutes to whip up gifts for my nephews and a special hat for my Calleigh. I rarely make things for my kids so that's especially been fun!

My Calleigh looooves My Little Pony! She requested a pony hat but, she couldn't decide which one, so I just decided for her. I went with the most colorful one, Rainbow Dash! I decided I was just going to wing it. There is no pattern for this hat. I do not plan on writing one either. I will walk you through how I made it though.

I amazingly had every color I needed in my stash. I use Vanna's Choice for the whole hat! I just love the colors from Vanna's as they all go together perfectly!

I started with a sc base because I knew there would be a lot of details. Sewing on the sc base is easier and holds shape better. The eyes are super detailed. I was afraid I wouldn't have two eyes the same. They aren't but they work LOL!
They are a mix of crochet and embroidery to get in every sparkle in her eyes!

Here she is before hair! I made her snout several times before I liked it.
I wasn't going to put one but she didn't seem finished without one.

On to the last step! That Pesky Main.  Now I know Rainbow Dash doesn't have curly hair but I thought this would be the easiest method and not be super heavy. I'll even give you a simple pattern to follow for these spirals!

I used Vanna's Choice and H-Hook (5.00mm)

I made two of each color
Red, Yellow & Orange = ch 20
Green, Blue = ch 30
Purple = ch 40
*make sure to leave about 4" tail  at the begining to sew on to hat.

To work the spirals, In the 2nd ch from the hook repeat this pattern along the length of the chain.
(hdc3 in next ch, hdc2 in next ch)
At the end of the row fasten off and use the tail ends to tie them on to the hat as desired.
I did use the ends to tie in a knot two times, then weaved the end back up through the spirals. You don't have to knot as I know it's a crochet no, no but I wanted these very secure!

These didn't take to long and you can always add more but I thought this was just enough coverage with out to much extra weight. Calleigh loves flipping her pony hair around :)

******

I made these other two hats a few weeks ago actually! These will be gifts for my nephews! My son kindly agreed to smile If I make him a Batman one next :) Of course I will! These are graph beanies. I've used the pattern many times. You can find hat base pattern from Playin' Hooky Designs here. She sells several graphs that I know you'll like. I used her Spiderman Graph.

(She even has My Little Pony graphs for the main six Cutie marks!)

For Superman I found this graph pinned here. It worked out okay but I think I may just appliqué it next time. Just needs to be worked out a bit. Not all graphs work out great and need some tweaking. That is one thing I love about Playin Hooky's graphs is that she takes time to work through them and make sure they look great!

If you've never worked with graphs this a a fabulous pattern that will work you through it and she is also very helpful if you need assistance!

Well I have more gifts, patterns and projects in the works! Excited about this Holiday Season and New Year to come!

Neon Yarn Creations

I don't know how I feel about neons being popular in clothing right now! Reminds me to much of my 80's childhood. Haha! I like warmer jewel tones myself. I discovered Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn Neons. The colors are vibrant and the yarn itself seems a little bit softer that their regular worsted which is already great. I think I bought one in almost every color. It comes in Yellow, Pink, Orange, Fuschia, Purple, Green and  Blue!

Here are a few fun things I made over my Thanksgiving vacation!

This hat is a pattern by Speckled Frog Crochet
You can find it here (it's my all time favorite newsboy pattern)
I used the Green Neon and Black to match my sons winter coat. (He loves Green!)

This hat pattern is by a local friend of mine Boomer Beanies
I used the Purple! Calleigh's favorite color! She absolutely loved this hat!
This was my 1st attempt and cables and I was very please with the pattern and the results. I want to make this hat for me. It's just to fun!

This last hat was my inspired by my hubby! He's in the picture above, which he took himself from his cell phone. (Don't tell him I showed you....hehe!) He never models for me.

We're big Thunder Basketball fans around here! So he was excited to see these colors! They are perfect! I had a hard time last year trying to find the right ones! So I hope these stick around for a while! My hubby loves slouchy hats right now. I think I've whipped of several and finally sat down and wrote out the pattern for the slouchy.

You can find it free here in a previous blog post with links to download a pdf if desired

So maybe neons are not for you but maybe step out and try something bright!
I do love these colors and quality! Give it a try!

If you don't crochet I'd love to make you anything you see here in any size! Just contact me through the contact me tab and we'll chat!

What would you make with this yarn?

It's Party hat time!

I recently found this adorable {free} crochet pattern for party hats over at Easy Makes me Happy!
 {I love her blog it's always so bright and colorful with lots of fun ideas! }

I decided to embellish on a few - I added brightly color spots and fun spirals at the top!

This one is for Calleigh's Party Saturday it's pink sparkle with brown. I added a fun ruffle and spirals at the top. I had originally tried a pom pom but those don't work so well in cotton {just FYI}

I was going to use this for a photo shoot but it was too windy! So It's my John Deere themed party hat.

Aren't they just cute! The possibilities are endless!

Thanks for the adorable pattern Tara!

Pixie & Pom Pom Craze

So this past week I finally bought a pom pom maker. I'm in love! Why did I not do this sooner. {because I'm cheap- and it was on sale}  So with my mind on pom pom making I decided I needed to make more jester and pixie hats. I made up four super cute hats and here they are:

Patriotic Pixie/Stocking Cap

This stocking cap has a great texture stitch and I love the effect it gives it. The color design is my twist on a pattern by Speckled Frog Crochet You can find the stocking cap pattern here.
I decided to go with a simple pom pom and a cute star button for an accent, but this hat can also be made with long braided tail or a curly tail for different effects. I think this would make a great photography prop for newborns with patriotic holidays coming.

Stars & Stripes Jester Hat

This fun Jester Beanie is also patriotic in theme. I used the basic jester hat pattern by Inner Hooker and added my own twist with colors and a texture stitch that I like to use. I love how it turned out!

Pink Camo Jester Hat

I love this girly camo. This is also the same pattern with my texture stitch added. I just like the raised effect that it gives.

Nubby Newsboy Cap

I need to make this in my size! I offer this hat in any size nb to men/women's sizes
I love the ivory tweed and tan belt with buttons. I think it would make an adorable nb photo prop or just a great fall hat for anyone. This is a warmer hat with the thick texturing but it fits a little bigger than a regular newsboy cap so it great for on the go when you want to hide your hair :).

OH I almost forgot to share the new Photography prop - Hanging Basket!

This is also a new pattern by Inner Hooker. {i have like 25 of her patterns and highly recommend her}
I'm excited to make more of these in a variety of colors. isn't it cute. I had a few fans ask me if it was for plants to hang in. I supposed you could do that but I'd have to design it smaller and with different yarn.

I'm about to have a lot more free time. I only have one more day left at the college for the semester!

HELLO SUMMER BREAK!!!!

A walk down Memory Lane

As I make hats often I was thinking I never really wear them. I love to create and make them though. Guess I just need to make one special for me. It hard to find time to do that though.

I thought I'd share a memory of a time I didn't wear a hat and should have. When I has in Middle School we lived in Rapid City, SD. The winters definitely get cold but back then they didn't have a bus system so we would walk to school. I seriously had to walk up hill both ways in the cold snowy winters. One day for some reason in the blowing snow I didn't want to wear a hat so I didn't. (bad idea) I got to school and one of my ears was just on fire from the wind burn. I remember sitting in History class thinking I was going to be in big trouble. After class I went down to the office and called my dad and he came and got me from school. I don't remember really getting in trouble or even going to the doctor. I just remember dad taking the day off work and we went bowling and got chili cheese fries. So really it turned out to be a good day. My ear was fine just a little frost bite. So moral of this story keep those hats on! :)

Do you like hats? What Kind?

New Photography props and more

This past week I've been crocheting like crazy! I have got to get items for two boutiques and a small in home craft show I'll be a part of. Since I started my business after Christmas last year I think I'm in for a crazy couple of months and I'm so excited about it! I've always got something new in mind so I thought I'd get it out of my system this past week since I probably won't have a chance too. Here are new items that you will find in my Artfire shop very shortly!
Cupcake Earflap hat

Cluster Beanie in blue and grey

Cluster beanie in Red and white Sparkle

Hooded Cocoon

Textured newborn hat and matching diaper cover

What I'm determined to finish this week is a minimum of 10 extra owl hats and that's on top of everything else! So far it's looking bleak but with a little encouragement I think It'll happen! I've been trying to make one extras each time they're ordered but I can't keep up! I love it but I'm getting a little burt out on owl hats! They just take a longer to sew on all the extras, but by all mean I'd still love to make you one :)

what's on your hook?

What's in a Name?

I've really been rolling the idea around of trying to come up with unique names for my many crochet hats, clips and headbands besides exactly what they are called. So I opened up an album on Facebook to gather ideas to name the hats. I'm looking for Names of your children, family or really whatever comes to mind when you look at the hat. We've already had some great responses but I want to open it up to more ideas.
If you'd like to come join the fun enter: --------> here. You'll have to be a fan of Calleigh's Clips to comment but I'm sure if your here you already might be :) if you're not a fan click here first .

If I choose the name you suggested for an item you'll get 20% off that item. Can't wait to see what you guys can come up with.

All things Zebra

I'm on this Zebra print kick! I've been working on new things for The Gift Garden was looking for things more trendy. Zebra and Hot Pink are my top sellers.

First is our new Granny Square hats - I made them with Simply Soft yarn in Black & White with accents in Hot Pink and Lime Green. Don't you just love how the Color pops. These can be made in a variety of size from newborn to adult.

Next is my newest Bandana dress in Zebra print with pink and black Polka dot trim. I love that Bandana Dresses fit 12m - up to 4 years as a dress and still fits 5-7 years olds as a shirt. Of course we can always add more fabric to the bottom to make them longer or cut them to be smaller.
Not only to they grow with your child but there light weight for summer and make a great swim suit coverup  and in the winter you can put a shirt underneath and add some leggings. It's great in all season.
of course I had to make a bow to match !

Another favorite bandana dress is the hot pink zebra! It also comes in lime and orange.

The second bow was inspired by a friend of mine. I'd accidentally bought brown zebra so I had to put it to good use. This is super cute if you love animal prints.

I have a several other animal print ribbons and I'll be working on new flower ribbon bows too! I can't wait to show you more!

If you interested in purchasing any of these items you can visit my Artfire Store front.
