Featuring: Sweet Crochet Creations

I'd like to introduce you to one of our newest sponsors Carrie Bennett of

I've asked her a few interview questions so we can learn a little bit out her and her shop:

 Were are you From?
Monterey, CA (but am now in the San Francisco Bay Area)

 How long have you crocheted?
I think I learned when I was really young - maybe 8?  I remember crocheting a sweater for my Cabbage Patch doll!  But I recently picked it back up when my husband started doing photography professionally.  It's kind of like riding a bike, but I had to figure out how to read patterns and learn a few new stitches.  There are some great resources online.

What is your favorite stitch?
Probably a half double crochet.  Or maybe any decreasing stitch...since that usually means I'm almost done!  lol

What do you specialize in ?
Crochet hats for all sizes

How did you get started in your business?

My little shop started because I was making hats and props for my husband's photography business (www.colejbennettphotography.com).  Clients started asking about purchasing the hats, so I happily obliged.  :)  I just added some items to my etsy shop and I'm hoping to get a little busier this year.  My mom actually helps a lot too.

Do you have an item you've made that is super special and why?

Recently, an old friend asked if I could create two police caps for unborn twins, due any day.  They lost their father to prostate cancer while their mother was pregnant and he was a beloved police officer.  I was on a mission to find a pattern.  I found one, tweaked the pattern a little, and made the hats.  I added their father's badge number as well as a baby blue ribbon, which signifies prostate cancer.  The girl's hat has a little flower as well.  I'm looking forward to seeing the babies with their hats (any day now), and I hope they cherish them.

On a more personal note:

If you could have a super power what would it be ?
FREEZE TIME - all I ever want is more time!  To crochet, to sleep...

Favorite vacation spot or travel destination?
My favorite vacations have been in Mexico.  My honeymoon in 2005 was in the Riviera Maya and I've been to Cancun twice in the past few years.

What did you want to grow up to be as a child?
Either a teacher or a pediatrician because I wanted to work with kids. I ended up a high school guidance counselor, so I'm still working with kids - just the big kids.  It's a rewarding job and you can't beat the school year's schedule!

Thanks so much Carrie for sharing your shop and a little about you!

Where have I been?

Hi - Okay so I just realized I've not blogged several weeks and for a very good reason. I never imagined when getting started with the critter cape idea that it would take off so well. I went from getting a couple orders a weeks to 10-15 orders for finished products and 100s of pattern sales. The best way to describe it is I'll have been on Etsy a year on July 20th. I'm at 815 sales and 750 ish of those were in the past two months. Now most of those are pattern sales but still it's completely amazing to me.

This little turtle has been on fire. I've literally sold one every day since I listed it (sometimes more). It made it's way on pinterest and has spread like crazy.

I'm kinda tired of turtles.....LOL but I'm not complaining.

I'm kinda hoping to reach 1000 etsy sales by July 20th so I can say I did it in a year!

So to help I have a pattern sale going on.

You can get any 3 of my crochet patterns for $9.00 it's basically buy two get one free.
You can purchase this via etsy
If you want to help me reach my goal you can also just purchase two patterns and tell me which one you want for free. ;)

Thanks so much for your support on this crazy adventure the past two months. I'm so looking forward to busy season for fall/winter. So remember if you really want something soon or even Christmas don't wait to long because my wait time is already 3-4 weeks and I'll start teaching piano again in a month so I'll be so much more busy!

Have a great weekend!

Feathered Locks!

So i'm not usually one to jump on the bandwagon of the next new fad but it seems the new thing for hair accessories is feather extensions. I'd noticed several acquaintances with them and then was talking with some friends that do hair for a living and they said it's so popular right now. I thought they were pretty and I really wanted to get some. Seem most salons are charging about $10 and up for each feather and I thought to myself that can't be that hard to do yourself. I've never had extensions and wondered if they might be painful.

I decided to search etsy and came across several shops that offer the extensions. I decided on one extensions with four feathers in natural tones so it would blend nicely with my hair color. I bought from this shop called Flocks2Locks. She has a great selection. from natural tones to really edgy colors like, pink, blues, reds, yellows and more fun ones. I don't know if I'd go that far into the bright colors but red might be fun.

If you need help putting them in I found videos and instructions all over the place. It said you just needed a latch hook tool which I had but was to big to put through the crip bead so I just use a handy dandy tiny crochet hook. It's was really easy I just had trouble deciding were I wanted to put it. Now I think I need like two more extensions. ;)

I don't even feel the crimp bead or the extension. For those of you who don't like to color your hair it's such a natural way to add some color or highlights with out dyes or chemicals. {obviously I don't really mind dye because I do that often}. These can be left in your hair for several months. You wash and style them just like you do your hair. So the end result is that I really like them and I want a few more.

What do you think?

New to my Esty....

I've been a blog slacker the last week or so but I've been busy crocheting lots of bigger orders for Christmas and Photographers. I'm so excited because I set a goal for my November Sales and we'll I never thought I'd actually reach it and not only did I but a little more and the end of the month and busiest shopping weekend isn't even over. I'm just so thankful for all of my customers and for those of you who have encouraged me to keep going!

I thought I'd share a few new crochet items  I tried while traveling this week.

First - My Mom of Posh Pooch Designs writes lots of patterns and I get the honor of testing them! She recently wrote two new pattern for a mobius scarf and fingerless gloves. These patterns or finished product can be purchased in the etsy shop we share

I used my favorite pattern for the Beanie - Divine Hat. the yarn is called Gelato stripe by I Love this Yarn! The colors are just so fun I love the pops of orange and green! If you interested in purchasing the set shown it's ready to ship and can be found here

I also tried something new it's a flower hot pad or trivet ! Inspired by peppermint! I don't think I did it exactly like the picture showed but I like the way it came out either way! I'll definitely try it again!

Have a great weekend everyone! Don't forget everything in my etsy and artfire shops are 10% off through Monday!

Create Crochet Etsy Team

Well I've been selling on Etsy for four months now and I have to say so far I'm not disappointed. I was really nervous to jump into such a large online selling venue and so far it's paid off.

Etsy have several teams you can join up there all made up of Etsy sellers. I browsed through many and decided to join up with the Create Crochet Etsy Team. I have to say it was one of the best things ever. I've meet some really great and talented people from all over the world. Everyone is such an encouragement and I've learned a lot of different things from different people. I love the feedback on my items. Plus it's nice to know there are other people in the world that are as addicted to crocheting as I am . LOL!

Etsy give out grants to each team ever month and Our Team won this month! You can read about that here. I'm so proud of all the hard work our leaders, helpers, members and volunteers have put into this team.

Our team has challenges every month and this is the first month I've been able to participate. Our theme is for breast cancer awareness. Since we won the grant the team will be picking 10 winners and they'll each get a prize! You can read more about our team and events we've been a part of this year here.

I entered my pink-a-boo puppy. So when It comes time to vote tomorrow! You'll have to help me out!! You can vote on the Create Crochet Etsy Team Blog.

I look forward to being a part of this team for a long time! Congrats team and keep up the good work!

Come and see....

I've been pondering the idea of having someone make a logo or design for me for some time. I just had no clue what I wanted. An acquaintance of mine asked if I'd looked on Etsy. I don't know why I didn't think of it. I didn't have to search far when I found Dreamlike Magic's Shop. She makes the cutest pre-made designs. It was hard for me to choose even from a small be darling collection of designs.

I didn't want it to look to girly since I do sell items for boys as well as women and men. I loved the idea of the owls. I finally decided on this design with the three owls because to me it represents a momma and two babies just like me.

This is a sample of my business card

With the set I choose I got:

First Treasury and First Sale on Etsy!

I'm so excited with how my first week on Esty has gone. In just a few days My Black/White and Hot pink cluster beanie made it into a treasury!  Check out all the cute Black/ White and Hot pink items that were chosen with it.

Today I had my first sell on etsy and it also was the same beanie. I don't know if the treasury had anything to do with it but I'm excited either way. I also sold a few other items aswell to the same person. So we're off to a really great start!

My mother of Posh Pooch Designs Dog Clothes and I decided we'd add a few of her crochet items and patterns along with mine and eventually she may have her own shop but we're hoping it will bring in more traffic for both of us to get started for now.

One of her dog sweater sets we featured in a treasury : My Harvest Carnival as well on it's first day in shop.  She also made her first sale today of her Skull Cap Pattern for Small dogs.

We're off to a great start and we are both excited about Etsy!

We're on Etsy!

Since I first started Calleigh's Clips I've contemplated selling on Etsy! I've really struggled with it because you had to pay to list the items and if they don't sell I'm losing money. We literally have 100s of different items so I knew I couldn't list them all right at first. Well since we've been in business I've been setting aside funds to get it going and I think now is a good time. I've only got 5 items in the shop and I'll slowly be adding new ones. I'm so very excited about this new adventure and I really hope it pays off :)

Who doesn't love etsy! I've found so many new creations and inspirations from it! I've also met some fun people through purchases through it. I can't wait to explore the big world that etsy is. If you have an etsy shop or shop on etsy I'd love to exchange Etsy heart's since I'm new I could really use some :)

So come explore Calleigh's Clips and Crochet Creations on Etsy!

Feel free to post links on my blog for your shops and tell me about your etsy experiences as shoppers and sellers.
