In the Jungle- Cuddle Critter Capes

So I've been a blogging slacker this week. Have a few changes at the school that have and will keep me twice as busy for the next three weeks. So that means less crochet time and more piano time. Still my two favorite things so I can't complain! Besides once school is out in a few weeks I'll have lots of crochet time so just a little shift in the norm.

anywho! I did get a chance to work on my next set of Cuddle Critter Capes  - My last theme was forest creatures and bugs you can read about them here! For my next set of animals we journeyed to the jungle. I took a fun vote on my facebook page for what you'd like to see next. Monkeys came out way ahead with giraffe's and zebras to follow. I'd also like to do an elephant, tiger and lion too but not much interest was shown for those just yet.

So here is what I made up:

MONKEY

i think I'll call it Chunky Monkey! This one is made with super soft Bulky yarn in a lovely variegated shade of brown. He features little monkey ears and a long tail. He's so soft! The little baby will feel so snuggly in this one!

Giraffe

I love the new and improved giraffe hat. I've made a few before but it was brighter yellow. This hat is made with Goldenrod yellow and Coffee Brown for richer color and I added a few spots for fun. The horn have a little stuffing in them to give them shape.

The Cape hat fun spots and a cute little tail! I love giraffes! When my son was born that was a theme we used often for him. He has tons of stuffed animals that are giraffes and some of my favorite pics of him are in giraffe themed clothing and colors.

The hat can be purchased separately too in any size you want ! it's a fun one to make and just absolutely adorable!

Zebra

Obviously I'm not done with the zebra! I tried to get a pattern for it with waves in the hat instead of just straight lines. I only found one pattern and the seller wanted you to purchase a cottage license to sell which I disagree with. So I'm working on my own pattern. ( You can read some about this over on Crazy Socks Crochet's Blog)  I just need to finish up the ears and then add the main. it will be first attempt at a mohawk and I'm kinda excited only it's time consuming but the end result will be awesome. I may even write up a pattern for this but it will be awhile. It's a little more complicated than others I've written.

What do you think of the new ones? I'm excited to work on the next set I have in mind! I'll probably have another vote on my facebook so come join the fun!

We're just waiting on a few bundles of joy to arrive and we should have some professional pics with real babies modeling some of these for you in the coming week. I'm very excited to see!

Spring Break Slacker

I'm currently on Spring Break which means to me more time to crochet. I'm currently designing a new line of products for newborn photographers. The idea is from a photographer friend that I'll be working with (Dorinda Varga Photography) and I'm so excited about it. I won't be revealing what they are just yet. I should have some professional pics in the next month and then a big reveal.

I was hoping to dive right into this new line but fate would have it I be sick all weekend. These weather changes in Oklahoma are just crazy! I've been sleeping off a fever most of the past three days and I'm ready to get out of the house but it's rather gloomy and the kids are rather obnoxious today so I think I'll pass until the hubs gets off work. I must needs get yarn and mail a few orders.

On a good note I got to put together to fun spring/summer hats that a friend of mine bought for a friend who is fighting cancer. I hope these hats brighten her day. She picked the colors and styles. I love customizing for customers because sometime I need inspiration. Plus I don't get to make Women sizes very often so it was nice to make some larger hats.

I love this lime and white combo on the bucket hat

This is a gorgeous cotton Brown and cream with a large rose detachable clip.

On a fun note I did make a new animal hat last night. Doesn't George look super cute as a lil' stinker!

Hopefully I can enjoy the next few days of spring break but I need some sunshine, smiles and yarn! :)
Have a great Tuesday!

Holiday Happenings

Tis' a busy season.  As this year draws to a close I think back on how my little business adventure has grown and the different directions it's taken. I can't believe it's been almost a year since I started Calleigh's Clips and Crochet Creations. I can't be more please with the success I've had and thank the Lord for the talents he's given me and a wonderful mom that encourages me to do what I do.

With this being the first holiday season I've endured I got a little nervous for last minute shoppers. I've squeezed in several large last minute projects and am thankful those will all be in the mail tomorrow just in time for Christmas. I'm so please many of you have chosen our items to give as gifts for the Holidays. I think Handmade is always a little more meaningful but keep in mind it does take longer to make so as you plan for next year. Order early because I'm positive I'll have a closer cut off date to prevent a little less stress on me :).

I wanted to share a few new items I got to create:

Set of bear hats for sisters , I made a teddy bear hat for there little brother too! I just love the fuzzy ears on the Koala and Panda hats!

Lots of head wraps ! These are super popular this year. I'm so glad I wrote up a pattern myself for these and they are a best seller

Look at all the fun colors I got to make for a large order and I loved that the customer wanted other appliques

I used flowers, hearts, & stars, but would look great with as snowflake or dots too!

This was a hat I made my Calleigh for her Christmas dress. She wore it to church today and got lots of compliments! I love showing off my creations on my baby girl! She just to cute but I'm partial ;)

Wreath Hat

Merry Christmas!

Thanks for Making this year such a big success and I look forward to the next!

New Divine Beanie

I'm totally in love with a new free beanie pattern I came across several months back. I finally took the time to make it and I'm glad I did. It's called the Divine Beanie and you can find it for free here along with a few other unique hats, and amigurumi crochet patterns.

I choose to make this beanie in a grey tone of Charcoal. Shades of grey are very in style for our winter months ahead. I'm not usually fond of grey myself because I think is washes my snow white skin out...LOL! I do however love this dark charcoal grey. If you have lighter skin just stay away from lighter shades.

I really liked how easy this was to make despite how intricate it looks. I love the texture and the swirl effect. It's also a little thicker than a regular beanie so it should keep you nice and toasty in the fall.

I look forward to making more of these in other colors and size. If you decided to make some too let me know I'd love to see a picture.

If you don't crochet and love this hat as much as I do.  You can purchase it in my artfire shop in a several sizes. Feel free to ask for other colors too!

Whoo Doesn't love this owl earflap hat part 2

Well I had a goal of 10 owl hats this week just for extra inventory and to stock my boutiques. I've made seven but sold over half of them already! I really can't believe how well these sell. I decided to make some in new colors since I was getting bored making the same ones over and over and they are already a hit!

The first is the bright Colored Owl hat in  - Pink, Purple and Turquoise

The second is Self - Striping/variegated yarn- I loved the colors but am not usually a fan of variegated yarn. I was really pleased with the look it has with the owl hat.

I'll have a few new colors and styles to show soon! I love to customize too- just ask. These can come in any size  newborn to men/women's sizes. I can even make beanie style if you don't want earflaps or braids.

If you'd like to purchase just visit my artfire or etsy shop

American Girl Adventure

For the past few months I'd contemplated going in another new direction with my crochet. I thought it would be fun to make clothing and accessories for 18 inch dolls. I hadn't had the chance to try it until a friend emailed me and asked if I'd like to make some crochet doll hats for the clothing they make to sell. So that sparked the adventure. So far I've just made the hats I already do in smaller sizes. It's been good practice for me to think outside a pattern.

I needed a doll and wasn't about to pay $100 plus for a doll so I research from cheaper options but still wanted good quality. I found at target there version of American Girl called Our Generation Dolls. I though it was perfect and a fourth of the price. There are other options if you really want it less than $25.00. I found one similar at Ross for 17.99 and I was told you can get them a Michael's for less if you use a 40% off coupon that comes around regularly. I didn't see them at my local stores though.

My main goal right now is to promote Made to Match hats. One for girls and a matching one for her doll. My Facebook Fan already are loving the idea. I can't wait to try out some clothing too! There are already lots of free patterns for American Girl Dolls. Cobblers Cabin is just one site that has some cute patterns. I liked her Winter accessories Patterns  and see has plenty more.

Here are just a few pics of what I've made so far:

Mariposa "butterfly" Beanie

Swirly Shell Beanie

This last picture is our new adopted model. Her name on the box is Sandie but we're having a Re-Name Contest over on our Facebook Fan Page.  Just Visit this picture of her on facebook for rules. The winner will be chosen on Random.org and will win a Made to Match doll hat on there next hat purchase or 15% off. So come join the fun! This will run till Thursday Sept 16th at midnight and I'll pick a winner the following Friday.

Weekend Creations

Every weekend I try to create something new. I had lots of ideas and some extra time so I have several to share.

1st up is the Giraffe Hat! I found this adorable pattern from The Crafty Tortoise. You can find her blog here or visit her etsy shop. I wanted the pattern but was going to wait. It happened that a friend asked if I could custom make one. Here it its!

2nd: Lady bug Earflap Hat

This is my own creation. My Mother in law and I both  love ladybugs so I just had to create this for Calleigh. I just love the little swirly antennas. I have more ideas on creating multi-color dot hat. I just love polka dots too!

3rd one - Bumble Bee Set

I hadn't had a chance to share a diaper cover that I liked yet. mostly just played around with the one pattern I have. I though this would bee a perfect set ;) I got the bee set Idea from The Inner Hooker. The diaper cover pattern is hers and the hat is my own design. This would make a cute newborn photo prop. I love the little curly stinger on the diaper cover! It's all in the details. I can't wait to make more diaper cover sets.

Koala Bear Earflap Hat

I've been on a earflap hat kick for the fall. I had a customer request a custom made Koala bear earflap hat. I took my basic bear pattern and added in the fuzzy fun fur for the ears! I just love it. If you're looking for a certain animal I'm up for a challenge! I've had a few requests for other types like lions and hedgehogs. I  have a bunny and frog hat pattern I've not had a chance to make. You never know what you'll see next :)

Whoo doesn't love this owl earflap hat

Our newest hat is the Owl earflap hat. I purchased the pattern through a presale from The Inner Hooker. She has great hat and photo prop crochet patterns. I think I have around 10 of them. I've bought most, won a few and tested one.

I've already had four owl hats sold before I even tried it! I just think it so cute. I made this in Dark Brown and Olive Green so that it could be for boys.

These can be made to fit in any size from Newborn to Men/Women's sizes. These can be purchased right here via Paypal in my Artfire Storefront and my Etsy shop

Pink, Purple and Turquoise

New Brown/Grey and Creams variegated! I love this new style!
