Materials:
Worsted Weight (4) yarn ( I used I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby)
H - Hook (5.00mm)
Measuring Tape
Tapestry Needle

Stitches used:
(ch) chain, (sl st) slip stitch, (sk) skip, (sc) single crochet,
(hdc) half double crochet, (bpsc) back post single crochet

Determine which size you’ll need. The headband will only stretch about 2 inches so be sure to measure a child if you can because not all head sizes will be the same as the chart below.

0-3 mo  approx. 13-15 inches, 3-6 mo   approx. 15-17 inches
6-12 mo approx. 17-19 inches, 1-3 years approx. 18-20 inches
4+ years approx. 19-22 inches, Pre-teen - Women’s - approx. 21-23 inches

Headband Pattern:
Chain a multiple of 3 to the desired length un-stretched. **Example: 0-3 mo. ch 51
Join with sl st, ch 1 (take care not to twist the ch)

Round 1: Sc in 1st ch and each ch around, join with a sl st.

Round 2: ch 4 {counts as 1st hdc & ch2}, sk 2 sts, *(hdc in next st, ch2, sk 2 sts), repeat from * around, join with sl st to 2nd ch of beginning ch 4.

Round 3: ch 1, sc in same st as join, *(2 sc in each ch2 space, sc in next st), repeat from *  around, join with sl st to 1st sc.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

I love these headbands with interchangeable bows, clips and crochet flowers. You can even weave ribbon through the headband and tie a bow!

Optional Flower:

Using a size H hook - ch 4. Join the end to the first chain with a slip stitch to form a ring. (magic circle)

Round 1: (sc in the ring, ch 3) 6 times, join with a sl st to 1st sc

Round 2: (sc, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1, sc) in each ch3 space. Do Not join at end

Round 3: Now you begin working on the back side of the flower, *bpsc around the next sc of the last round, ch 4,  sk (ch 1, 3dc, ch 1, sc)  Repeat from *6 times. Join with a sl st to 1st sc.

Round 4: (sc, ch 1, 5 dc, ch 1, sc) in each ch 4 sp, Do Not Join at end

*If you want to add another layer of petals, repeat Round 3, increasing the number of stitches in the chain by one, and Round 4, increasing the double crochets by two.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Sew on to headband or attach it to an alligator clip for a detachable clip.

Thank you for the pattern. I've been letting my hair grow longer and have only been able to find patterns for babies and little girls, which I am not. :)

Thank you also for allowing your reproduced products to be sold. I was wondering how one can give blanket permission for this without losing creative rights to the designs.

Elisabeth Spivey said...

I'm Not sure what you mean by Blanket Permission - You just need to mention that the design/pattern is by me - Calleigh's Clips and Crochet Creations and provide the URL link to this blog or the specific listing
http://www.callieghclips.com :)

I hope that answers your question

I'm confused on the pattern for the headband...Rd 2 says chain 4, *(sk 2 st, ch2, hdc) repeat from *
so is that 6 chains in a row?

Hello, I love your head band. I have a question on the Round 2 ".Rd 2 says chain 4, *(sk 2 st, ch2, hdc) repeat from *
so is that 6 chains in a row?" could you please let me know if this is skip or slip stitch? Thank you.

I'm sorry - it is a typo!

It should be

ch 4, sk 2 sts, hdc in the next, *(ch2, sk 2 st, hdc in the next) repeat from *

I must have copied the wrong word doc when I made it available on my blog. Because my file isn't like this!

Hope that helps!

Oh thank you so much. I appreciate you taking the time to update this. Ahna

Rd 3 ch 1, sc around in each chain and hdc...

Forgive me because I am a beginner to crochet but what do you mean by single crochet in each chain AND hdc? Do we do both in each chain?

Elisabeth Spivey said...

you will do a sc stitch in ever ch and hdc (the ch 2 and hdc from the previous rows)

I could also just say one sc in ever ch and st around.

I hope that helps let me know if you have other questions

Thanks for this pattern. I am going to use it for a new niece.
I really appreciate the patterns.

Thanks for the pattern! It's really pretty. I'm trying it out right now, and I think I found an error. Shouldn't the foundation chain be a multiple of three rather than just an even number?
The middle row is the only one for which numbers matter, and it goes hdc, skip, skip, hdc, skip, skip...

love the headband. am attempting the flower and am a bit confused beginning with the backpost stitch. (beginner crocheter) in row 3, what do i skip? and where do i begin again with stitches in ( ). got a beanie finished for my first granddaughter and would love to put this flower on it. would so appreciate any help ...i'm almost there!

I made this little headband in just a few minutes and I used a small pom pom instead of a flower. It is adorable!! Thank you so much for sharing!! ;o)

I am confused about the Round 3 in the flower pattern. I saw someone else asked about this, but I didn't see a reply. I understand bpsc, then ch 4, but what do we skip and what stitch are we doing the paragraph directions in (ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1, sc)? Love the look of this flower and want to make it.

Elisabeth Spivey said...

Judi - after you ch 4, You will skip - This entire section in () = (ch 1, 3dc, ch 1, sc), Then bpsc in the next sc . This will be the 1st sc in each of the petal sections. Hope that helps!
